About Sunshine Coast Jewish Burial Society
The Sunshine Coast Jewish Burial Society was established in 2014 as a non-profit charitable organization to assist individuals and families living on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia in accessing traditional Jewish Burial practices.
After several meetings between our Board of Directors and the Sunshine Coast Regional District, an agreement was established to set aside a new area in the Seaview Cemetery with a capacity of 30 burial plots. The land was cleared and prepared for use.

The cemetery is easily accessible and is surrounded by trees.

The area was consecrated on December 7, 2014 in the presence of members of our small community by Rabbi Lindsay bat Joseph of the Centre for Jewish Excellence.

A grant was received from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Vancouver.

Although the Sunshine Coast is part of the mainland we are separated from Vancouver by a large body of water. For the community to have the use of a local cemetery takes away the stress of grieving family members of having to travel long distances to visit their loved ones.

Our local burial undertaker agreed to make their facilities available to us when we are able to organize a chevra kadisha for tahara purposes.

The committee offers physical and emotional support to the grieving family depending on their needs.

As with any non profit organization volunteers are needed to help us achieve our aims to help the community. As of July 2024 we are hoping to institute a phone tree/visiting committee to connect with seniors and others in our community that may be feeling isolated in their home.
